Our Mission

At Sicilia Vineyards, we employ the finest farming techniques to cultivate high-quality Italian varietals, aiming to introduce wine enthusiasts to exceptional yet rare varieties such as Barbera, Teroldego, Coda di Volpe, Fiano, Negro Amaro, and Greco.

Our Vision

As Yuba City's first vineyard, we strive to be a vital community member, contributing to local growth and supporting worthy causes. We aim to highlight our region's potential as a new wine-producing area while promoting responsible wine consumption.

Our Story

Nestled at the base of the scenic Sutter Buttes in Yuba City, California, Sicilia Vineyards is a passion project owned and operated by David Smith and Sandie Adams. Our journey began in 2004 when we envisioned transforming our newly acquired property into a flourishing vineyard.

David writes…

"When Sandie and I purchased this land, I dreamt of cultivating a vineyard, inspired by the very site where the Thompson Seedless grape was once developed. After immersing myself in viticulture courses at UC Davis, including an enlightening vineyard taxation course, new opportunities began to unfold.

A pivotal trip to Italy in 2005 ignited our passion. The rugged beauty and rich history of Sicily profoundly influenced us, leading to the creation of our European-style garden and, ultimately, the name of our vineyard, 'Sicilia' (pronounced 'Saychelia').

We were fortunate to receive invaluable guidance from experts like Reece Cordi of Cordi Winery and our consultant, Diego Barison, from Northern Italy. With the support of our dedicated team—Jake from Bi-County Irrigation, Alan Olivera and his crew, and farm equipment innovator Mr. Clemons and his assistant Heiko—we embarked on our vineyard journey.

Our first significant step was in 2009, when we prepared the soil and planted rootstock specially developed in Washington State. We selected Italian varietals, including Greco, Fiano, Coda di Volpe, Primitivo, Barbera, Negro Amaro, and Teroldego, aiming to produce outstanding wines reflective of our terroir.

Despite challenges, including Sandie's courageous battle with breast cancer, we persevered. With partnerships from esteemed winemakers like Mark Henry of Montolivia Vineyard & Winery and Ruggero Mastroserio of Mastroserio Winery, our wines began to flourish. Notably, our first releases—Primitivo, Barbera, and the unique white blend Due Bianchi—have received acclaim.

After completing our fifth harvest, we are thrilled to introduce our Sicilia label wines. We are also exploring the potential of an on-site tasting room to share our passion with visitors.
